Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho plays down fears that Henrikh Mkhitaryan suffered a serious injury during his side's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is likely to miss a week with the ankle injury he sustained during this afternoon's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Mkhitaryan scored the only goal of the game at Old Trafford but was stretchered off in the final 10 minutes after a challenge from Danny Rose.

However, Mourinho is confident that the Armenian will be back in time for Boxing Day and cooled fears that he could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"We don't think it's a serious injury. We don't think maybe Henrikh can play for a week. I was afraid it was serious but looks like it's not. Maximum a couple of weeks. It doesn't look like something that is very dangerous or difficult," he told reporters.

"He brings everything I want an attacker to play. Maybe one week out and it is better to be fresh for Boxing Day. I am happy with that from Henrikh. I don't care about individual trophies but for a player like him who spends working and working it means a lot. Not just the way he's creating but his defensive participation in the team.

"He crossed the line to be a better player. He crossed the line mentally, that others have to cross. I want more from some of my attacking players. The two moments of recovering the ball are crucial moments. Mkhitaryan was superb on that."

Mkhitaryan became the first Armenian to score in the Premier League with his goal against Spurs.
