Sevilla are reportedly contemplating whether to make a loan bid for Manchester City defender Sergio Gomez during the summer transfer window.

Sevilla have reportedly identified Manchester City defender Sergio Gomez as a potential transfer target for the summer.

Last year, the Premier League champions surprised many by moving to secure a deal for the Spaniard, who had been plying his trade at Anderlecht.

While there was the perception that the 22-year-old would go elsewhere or remain as a fringe member of Pep Guardiola's squad, he initially made an instant impact.

Gomez has been provided with seven starts, four of which have come in the Champions League, and five substitute outings since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium.

However, as the stakes of City's season have been raised, Gomez's game time has significantly reduced, with no appearance being made since the 2-0 defeat to Southampton in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on January 11.

Gomez has also featured on just four occasions since being sent off during a European fixture at Copenhagen, none of his game time coming in the Premier League since October 8.

Although City's left-back options have been reduced due to the loan exit of Joao Cancelo to Bayern Munich, it leaves Guardiola with a decision to make with regards to Gomez's long-term future.

According to Fichajes, Sevilla are monitoring the situation and could look to secure a temporary deal for the Spain Under-21 international.

Sevilla are undergoing somewhat of a rebuild under Jorge Sampaoli with 10 points from a possible 15 moving the club towards the mid-table spots in La Liga.

Los Nervionenses are also on the brink of reaching the last 16 of the Europa League after registering a 3-0 triumph over PSV Eindhoven last week.

Despite the resurgence, Sevilla are not necessarily blessed with options at left wing-back with Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Bryan Gil recently being used in that unfamiliar role.

Marcos Acuna played there on Sunday, although his long-term future is uncertain, and the same can be said of Manchester United loanee Alex Telles who moved inside to a back three at the weekend.

Gomez has one year of La Liga football under his belt having made 29 appearances for Huesca during the 2020-21 campaign.
