Claudio Ranieri: 'Leicester City in uncharted territory'

Claudio Ranieri admits that he was 'expecting a response' from Leicester City in their European tie against Club Brugge, but is unsure what to expect this weekend.

Claudio Ranieri has admitted that he does not know what to expect from Leicester City this weekend as they come to terms with balancing European and domestic football.

The Foxes were rewarded for their Premier League title success with a place in the Champions League this season for the first time - a campaign they kicked off in style with a 3-0 win over Club Brugge.

Just three days on from that impressive maiden win in Belgium, Leicester return to league action with a meeting against Burnley at the King Power Stadium, and Ranieri wants to see his players pick up from where they left off in midweek by putting their recent heavy defeat to Liverpool firmly behind them.

"For us everything is new, I want to see how my players respond," he told reporters. "They told me they are OK and they must show this on the pitch.

"Our first Champions League match was a good victory. I'm so pleased with our performance because after the Liverpool defeat I was expecting something."

Jeffrey Schlupp and Danny Simpson are both in contention to start against Burnley following their injury layoffs, although summer recruit Nampalys Mendy remains absent.
