Chris Wood: 'I want to emulate former Leeds United greats'

Leeds United striker Chris Wood hopes to match the goalscoring achievements of Mark Viduka at Leeds United, having scored his first goal for the club earlier this week.

Chris Wood has targeted a place in Leeds United folklore after getting off the mark for his new club.

The 23-year-old joined the Whites from Leicester City for a fee in the region of £3m earlier this summer.

Having found the net in the midweek draw with Bristol City, Wood now hopes to "follow in the footsteps" of some of the famous names to have put on the Leeds United shirt before him.

"I'm at a club where number nines are bred into the history and it goes back a long, long while," he is quoted as saying by The Yorkshire Post. "I want to be like them, like a Mark Viduka or someone like that.

"I want to follow in their footsteps. I just wanted to get on the mark and on the way. I know I can work hard for the team and do my best, but ultimately I want to score goals as well.

"Me and Mirco [Antenucci] worked well and it was nice and we have started to form a little bit of a bond and partnership. It's still going to take time. When you play one up front, it's difficult to create chances or get chances yourself."

Leeds are currently 15th in the Championship table after drawing their opening three league games.
