Hatem Ben Arfa: 'Selfishness has stunted my career'

Hull City loanee Hatem Ben Arfa admits to 'only thinking about himself' in the past, but is confident that he will still play for one of Europe's top clubs.

Hull City loanee Hatem Ben Arfa has insisted that the selfishness which has plagued his career is behind him as he looks to impress potential suitors.

The 27-year-old has fallen out with Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew and took the opportunity to join the Tigers on loan on transfer deadline day.

The Frenchman is likely to have played his last game for the Magpies, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, and admits that he has hindered his own progress at St James' Park by only thinking about himself.

Ben Arfa knows that his next move will likely be his last chance to fulfil his natural ability, but is still confident that he will achieve his dream of playing for one of Europe's top clubs before his career is over.

He told Sport Confidentiel: "In the past, I only thought about myself. I thought I was alone in the world. I am very fragile, too fragile.

"Being a free agent next summer? It is huge pressure. I have used up all my credits. It is like playing Mario - I have one life remaining, I have to take care, but I will take on the challenge.

"Playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe? I will achieve it."

Ben Arfa has made four Premier League appearances for the Tigers this season, but is yet to score.
