League One roundup: Gillingham gain ground on leaders Coventry City

Gillingham win 2-0 at home to Rochdale while leaders Coventry City are held by Bradford City.

Gillingham have cut Coventry City's lead at the top of League One to a single point after defeating Rochdale 2-0 at Priestfield Stadium.

Bradley Dack and Adedeji Oshilaja found the net to consolidate the Gills' position in second, while the Sky Blues played out a goalless draw at in-form Bradford City.

Burton Albion are up to third after Abdenasser El Khayati's 74th-minute strike earned them a 1-0 win at Wigan Athletic, making them the first team to secure a league victory at the Latics this season.

Fourth-placed Walsall's unbeaten run away from home went up in smoke as struggling Swindon Town snatched a dramatic 2-1 win thanks to a last-minute goal by Louis Thompson.

Bury dropped out of the playoff positions into ninth after going down 2-1 at home to Scunthorpe United, Luke Williams grabbing a late winner for the Iron.

There was a seven-goal thriller at Oldham Athletic where the hosts were defeated 5-2 by Southend United, who move up to eighth place.

Peterborough United moved within touching distance of the playoffs following their 3-2 win against Barnsley, an eventful match in which Barnsley's Kevin Long was sent off in the second period.

Bottom club Crewe Alexandra pulled off the comeback of the night, overturning a two-goal deficit to win 3-2 at Colchester United with veteran striker Ryan Lowe firing in the decisive goal in stoppage time.

Shrewsbury Town also enjoyed a successful evening on the road, winning 4-2 at Sheffield United after falling behind to a Conor Sammon goal. The game was effectively over as a contest in the 48th minute when James Collins made it 4-1 to the visitors.

Doncaster Rovers pulled away from the relegation positions into 16th place after putting three past Chesterfield without reply at home, but Blackpool are in danger in 23rd place following their 2-0 loss at Port Vale.

Meanwhile, Millwall lie in 11th place after going down 2-1 at Fleetwood Town, where Byron Webster's stoppage-time strike proved to be no more than consolation.
