Fulham manager Martin Jol believes that the signing of Dimitar Berbatov is the biggest transfer coup in the club's history.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has declared that the signing of Dimitar Berbatov is the biggest in the club's history.

Berbatov completed a medical in West London on Thursday and will shortly put pen to paper on £4m move from Manchester United.

Jol has beaten off competition from Juventus, Fiorentina and West Ham United to be reunited with the Bulgarian and believes that the striker's record speaks for itself.

He said: "I'm very happy and I think our fans will be very happy because it's probably the biggest signing in the history of Fulham.

"Dimitar's got a very good record. If you look at his record internationally and with United, I don't think there is another striker, maybe Robin van Persie in five years' time, who could achieve that."

Fulham are also close to completing a deal to sign Sunderland midfielder Kieran Richardson as they look to strengthen following Moussa Dembele's departure to Tottenham Hotspur.
