Fortuna Dusseldorf see off Hamburger SV to go above Wolfsburg

Fortuna Dusseldorf triumph 2-0 over Hamburger SV at the LTU Arena.

Fortuna Dusseldorf have moved out of the relegation playoff zone in the Bundesliga thanks to a 2-0 victory over Hamburger SV.

The hosts had the first chance of the evening when Axel Bellinghausen drifted a dangerous ball in for Robbie Kruse, but the Australian could not get a touch on the ball.

It was end-to-end action as both teams threatened to break the deadlock. Michael Mancienne thought that he had put Hamburg in the lead in the 40th minute, only for it to be ruled offside.

Dusseldorf went ahead in first-half injury time when Andreas Lambertz freed Kruse to shoot at Rene Adler. His shot took a deflection off Mancienne before hitting the net.

Marcus Berg had a glorious chance to level just after the break when he was through on goal, but Fabien Giefer saved well.

They were made to pay in the 64th minute when Stefan Reisinger made it 2-0. He weaved his way into the box before coolly slotting past Adler.

Hamburg poured forward looking for a route back into the game, with Maximilian Beister having a few attempts on goal.

However, they could not unlock the Dusseldorf defence, meaning that they remain in ninth place in the table.
