Everton captain Phil Neville admits that his team rode their luck in their 2-1 FA Cup win over Bolton Wanderers.

Everton captain Phil Neville has admitted that his side were fortunate to beat Bolton Wanderers in a tight FA Cup tie on Saturday.

John Heitinga struck an injury-time winner for the Toffees to book their place in round five after David Moyes's side were given a scare by the Championship side.

Neville has called for Everton to improve their performances ahead of Premier League games against West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Manchester United in the next two weeks.

He told the club's official website: "It was probably bordering on a little bit lucky in the end.

"We set off really well and for the first 15 or 20 minutes we looked as though we'd found our rhythm. The goal came at the end of a period of total domination and I thought it was going to be a quite simple game to win.

"Then, obviously, we conceded a goal and after that Bolton put us under a lot of pressure and we didn't play well enough after that. It was a proper cup tie and sometimes in a cup tie you just need to make sure you're in the hat for the next round. And that's what we are."

The Toffees will play Oldham Athletic in the fifth round after the League One side shocked Liverpool to win 3-2 and book their place in the competition's last 16.
