Wayne Rooney: 'Danny Welbeck will be fine'

Wayne Rooney reveals that Danny Welbeck will be fit for England's World Cup opener against Italy.

Wayne Rooney has revealed that Danny Welbeck will be fit for England's World Cup opener against Italy on Saturday.

Welbeck missed training on Wednesday amid claims that he could miss the match with a groin strain.

However, Rooney is confident that his Manchester United teammate will be fit to play some part this weekend against the Azzurri.

"Danny will be fine," he told reporters. "He will be ready for Saturday. He's not risked anything so he'll train on Friday and be available for Saturday."

England, whose only triumph at the World Cup came back in 1966, take on Italy in the city of Manaus.
