Harry Maguire: 'Young England squad could be advantageous at World Cup'

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire believes that Gareth Southgate's young England team could impress at this summer's World Cup due to their hunger and lack of fear.

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire has claimed that a young England team could impress at this summer's World Cup due to their hunger and lack of fear.

Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad for Russia 2018 features only three players over the age of 30 - Ashley Young, Gary Cahill and Jamie Vardy - while just five played in Brazil four years ago.

Maguire, who went to Euro 2016 as a fan two years ago while on the books at Hull City, is optimistic that a group of players that has not had "bad experiences" could be a positive.

"You've got a really young squad," the 25-year-old told BBC Sport. "Maybe to have had bad experiences isn't a good thing.

"There is no fear in the squad because not many have played in big tournaments. We'll go to Russia and take it on."

England will face Tunisia, Panama and Belgium in the group stage of the World Cup.
