Rene Meulensteen backs Samuel Eto'o to join Chelsea

Rene Meulensteen believes that Samuel Eto'o will leave Anzhi Makhachkala for Chelsea within the next fortnight.

Former Anzhi Makhachkala manager Rene Meulensteen believes that striker Samuel Eto'o will sign for Chelsea before the close of the summer transfer window.

The Russian club are open to selling a number of their top stars following owner Suleyman Kerimov's decision to cut costs, which has alerted the Blues and a number of Premier League outfits.

"I can see it happening," Meulensteen told Sky Sports News. "I mean I know Samuel is a bit older, coming to the end years of his career, and obviously the English Premier League throws completely different demands on you, different than he's been used to the last couple of years.

"But he's still a very, very good player and if he's surrounded by better players, if they can get him into scoring positions in the box he's still very, very, very good."

Eto'o previously played under Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho during his time at Inter Milan.
