Chelsea captain Gary Cahill reportedly decides to stay at the club and fight for his place in the first team under new manager Maurizio Sarri.

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has reportedly decided to fight for his place at the club amid speculation that he could leave in the closing stages of the European transfer window.

Cahill appears to be surplus to requirements under new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, having been left out of the matchday squad in all three of Chelsea's Premier League games so far this season.

The 32-year-old had been linked with a switch to Turkish outfit Galatasaray either on loan or permanently before the end of the month, but an official approach is yet to arrive.

The Telegraph reports that Cahill is not keen on a move to Turkey, though, and would rather stay at Stamford Bridge to fight for his place in the team against the likes of Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz and Andreas Christensen.

The England international has not completely ruled out the possibility of leaving the club before Friday's deadline, but it is understood that it would need to be a significantly better option than those currently on the table.

Regardless of whether or not he stays at the club, Cahill's status as captain is also understood to be under threat, with Sarri considering giving the armband to Cesar Azpilicueta or Eden Hazard.

Cahill joined Chelsea in January 2012 and has since won every trophy available to him at the club, including two Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League crown.
