Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho calls for video technology to combat diving

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho weighs in on the Arjen Robben diving controversy.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has called for the introduction of video technology in football to help referees combat diving.

The subject of simulation was thrust into the spotlight during the World Cup when Netherlands forward Arjen Robben was accused of going down too easily against Mexico.

Mourinho has now weighed in on the matter, claiming that this form of video technology would be welcomed by Premier League referees.

"If you have technology, you have a chance to have a fourth official watching on the video," he told Yahoo!. "So I think the referee should also be happy to have the chance in case of doubt.

"The chance to clear every doubt and the chance to make the right decision, because when one country feels that one bad decision influences its future in the competition, I think it's hard.

"And it's important for coaches, for players but also for referees. I think technology is something the referees would welcome."

Robben escaped disciplinary action from FIFA over his alleged diving, with the governing body stating that yellow-card offences cannot be punished retrospectively.
