Chris Powell "possibly" interested in Charlton Athletic return

Fans' favourite Chris Powell suggests that he would be open to a return to try to save former club Charlton Athletic from Championship relegation.

Chris Powell has revealed that he would "possibly" be open to returning to Charlton Athletic for a second spell in charge of the Addicks.

The 46-year-old had three separate spells as a player in South London and then returned as manager to oversee promotion from League One in 2012.

His three-year spell in charge came to an end in March 2014 and three permanent managers have come and gone since, with Karel Fraeye currently in interim charge of the relegation-threatened Championship side.

Asked if he would go back and try to steer the club away from the drop, Powell told Football League Tonight: "Possibly, possibly.

"I would say you cannot walk in... having four managers in just over 18 months, nothing has changed and actually it is deteriorating.

"You've got to look at the squad, you've got to look at the direction. You've got to have everything in place to have a go to try and get back to the promised land, which everyone knows is the Premier League."

Powell has been out of work since being sacked by another Championship side, Huddersfield Town, two months ago.
