Ronaldo backs Miroslav Klose to break World Cup goal record

Ronaldo says that he would not begrudge Miroslav Klose if the German overtook his World Cup finals goalscoring record in Brazil this summer.

Ronaldo has said that he will be "cheering" for Miroslav Klose this summer as the German attempts to break his record of 15 World Cup finals goals.

The retired forward, who set the record across three World Cup finals appearances in 1998, 2002 and 2006, told the Football Association that he would not begrudge his counterpart if he were to overtake him in the goalscoring stakes in Brazil.

"I am very proud of that record but records are there to be broken," said Ronaldo.

"It would be nice to keep it for a while longer but I am cheering for someone to break the record. It will be good for the sport."

Ronaldo scored his 15th and final World Cup finals goal at the 2006 World Cup, with a composed finish to put Brazil 1-0 up against Ghana in their round-of-16 tie. The Brazilians went on to win 3-0.
