Neil Lennon considering Eidur Gudjohnsen contract offer

Bolton manager Neil Lennon reveals that he is considering offering former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen a contract to return to the Reebok Stadium.

Bolton Wanderers manager Neil Lennon is weighing up whether or not to offer former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen a contract with the club.

Gudjohnsen left Belgian side Club Brugge in the summer and has been training with the Trotters, where he played between 2000 and 2002, in recent weeks.

The 36-year-old wants to put himself in contention for selection should Iceland qualify for Euro 2016, and Lennon may give him the platform to impress if he feels that Gudjohnsen still has something to offer.

He told BBC Sport: "He asked us would we take him in and have a good look at him, so that's what we're doing at the minute.

"He's always been a class player. You don't play for Barcelona for three or four seasons without being a really good player.

"He wants to give it another go. Iceland are going well and he'd like the opportunity to play for Iceland again."

Gudjohnsen, who scored 27 goals in 77 appearances in his first spell at the Reebok Stadium, has played for Monaco, Tottenham Hotspur, Stoke City, Fulham and AEK Athens since leaving Barcelona in 2009.
