Marc Bartra keen to nail down spot

Barcelona defender Marc Bartra hopes that his performance against Levante on Sunday will earn him a regular spot in Luis Enrique's first XI.

Marc Bartra has revealed that he is desperate to nail down a starting position in Barcelona's back four after impressing in Sunday's 4-1 win over Levante.

The Spaniard broke into the Barca first team in 2010, but has thus far struggled to establish himself as one of the two first-choice centre-backs.

The 24-year-old opened the scoring in his team's La Liga win on Sunday and is hopeful that he will now be given a run in the XI.

"[Luis Enrique gives you a chance] if you deserve it. When you face a team who sit back a lot, it's difficult to break them down, but once you score one, it becomes a lot easier," Bartra told reporters.

"I was lucky enough to have been the one who scored the first goal, but I prefer to focus on the work of the entire team. I think [my place in the team] is in my hands, and [I can keep it by] contributing and helping the team."

Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique, Thomas Vermaelen and Jeremy Mathieu are all currently ahead of Bartra in the pecking order at Camp Nou.
