Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Mesut Ozil's contribution against Everton proves that the German is "motivated" to perform for the Gunners.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that Mesut Ozil has proven that he is "motivated" to perform for the Gunners, despite persistent speculation about his future.

With less than a year remaining on his contract, Ozil has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium, but the playmaker contributed a goal and an assist during the 5-2 victory over Everton last weekend.

The German international had been making his first start in six weeks, but Wenger has praised the 29-year-old condition after his return to the side.

The Frenchman told reporters: "He's in a very good shape at the moment physically. He's focused and motivated so I would say yes.

"What people question is their commitment (Alexis Sanchez and Ozil) I didn't and what happened on Sunday proved that even more."

Ozil is likely to start when Arsenal host Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.
