Michael van Gerwen, Adrian Lewis reach last eight in Minehead

World number one Michael van Gerwen and third seed Adrian Lewis reach the last eight of the UK Open, but Aden Kirk bows out with a defeat to Brendan Dolan.

Aden Kirk's run at the UK Open was ended by Brendan Dolan on Saturday evening.

The 22-year-old factory worker from Nottingham, who knocked out Phil Taylor in round three, added World Championship finalist Peter Wright to his list of scalps in the afternoon session in Minehead.

However, he was unable to book a place in the quarter-finals after losing 9-7 to Dolan. The Irishman's opponent in the last eight will be Terry Jenkins, who overcame Paul Nicholson and James Wade on day two.

World number one Michael van Gerwen remains the favourite for the tournament, having seen off Andy Hamilton and Mark Webster.

Van Gerwen will face Ian White next, but his main rival for the title appears to be Adrian Lewis, who scraped past Ronny Huybrechts before outclassing Raymond van Barneveld to book a quarter-final meeting with Mensur Suljovic.

Mervyn King should not be discounted, though, after impressive victories over Dave Chisnall and Christian Kist saw him through to face Kevin Painter.

Round four: James Wade 9-5 Kim Huybrechts, Vincent van der Voort 8-9 Christian Kist, Michael van Gerwen 9-5 Andy Hamilton, Aden Kirk 9-5 Peter Wright, Ronny Huybrechts 8-9 Adrian Lewis, Paul Nicholson 5-9 Terry Jenkins, Raymond van Barneveld 9-3 Joe Murnan, Dave Chisnall 4-9 Mervyn King, Dean Winstanley 9-6 Stephen Bunting, Alex Roy 5-9 Ian White, Nigel Heydon 7-9 Brendan Dolan, Kevin Painter 9-4 Andrew Gilding, Mensur Suljovic 9-7 Robert Thornton, Gary Anderson 9-5 David Pallett, Jamie Lewis 9-5 Simon Stevenson, Mark Webster 9-8 Paul Hogan

Round five: Brendan Dolan 9-7 Aden Kirk, Terry Jenkins 9-8 James Wade, Michael van Gerwen 9-4 Mark Webster, Adrian Lewis 9-2 Raymond van Barneveld, Mensur Suljovic 5-9 Jamie Lewis, Gary Anderson 7-9 Ian White, Mervyn King 9-6 Christian Kist, Kevin Painter 9-5 Dean Winstanley

Quarter-final draw:

Kevin Painter vs. Mervyn King
Terry Jenkins vs. Brendan Dolan
Adrian Lewis vs. Mensur Suljovic
Michael van Gerwen vs. Ian White
