Jos Buttler has been ruled out of England's opening one-day international against Pakistan tomorrow with a hand injury.
The 21-year-old has been unable to recover from split webbing in his left hand that he sustained during a recent England Lions match against Sri Lanka A.
England's ODI captain Alastair Cook has revealed that the middle-order batsman may be available for the second fixture later in the week.
"Unfortunately, he's not going to make it," Cook told reporters. "It's obviously quite a bad split of the webbing, so he's unavailable for selection - obviously for this game, and then we'll see how it heals for the next 24 to 48 hours.
"It's a big cut in the webbing, and the risk of it doing it again is quite high so soon after when he first did it."
Buttler has yet to make a ODI appearance for England.
