England's cricketers will receive extra protection when they play Pakistan in January.

England will increase security around their cricketers when they play Pakistan in January, according to The Sun.

The players will be protected by an increased security presence as part of a move to shield them from potential match-fixers.

Andy Flower's team head to Dubai and Abu Dhabi for three Tests, four one-day internationals and three Twenty20 matches against Pakistan in January.

The safety of the players has been reassessed after Pakistan's Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were jailed for their part in the spot-fixing scandal.

The scandal marred Pakistan's tour of England in 2010.

The International Cricket Council has vowed to clamp down on match-fixers, although Andrew Strauss and Sir Ian Botham have been critical of the ICC's efforts.
