Tim Bresnan has admitted that he is "gutted" to have been forced to withdraw from the England squad with an elbow injury.
The bowler will play no part in the upcoming Test series with Pakistan, although he may be available for the one-day matches.
"I'm gutted not to have an opportunity to play in the Test series but I knew that looking at my rehabilitation programme it was always going to be touch and go to get me ready for the series," he told reporters.
"The priority now is to get myself ready for the one day series in February."
Graham Onions has taken Bresnan's place in the squad.
