The NBA have reportedly made plans to allow the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets to print nicknames on the back of their jerseys for one game during the season.
Despite not confirming the move yet, the teams have been informed about the decision and the Heat's Ray Allen has greeted the news with approval.
"It shows growth in our league and it shows we do adapt to what's going on around us," reporters were told by Allen, the Heat guard who plans to wear Shuttlesworth on his jersey, a reference to his part the 1998 film He Got Game.
"We're still kids, playing a kids' game. Even though we're now men playing a kids' game, we still remember where we come from. Everybody had a nickname and it's a way to let the fans in a little bit more."
LeBron James would be expected to use the nickname 'King James' due to his use of the name on merchandise, while Brooklyn's Paul Pierce could use 'The Truth' if the decision is confirmed.
