Brook Lopez has had a second procedure on his broken foot in a bid to prevent further injury.
The Brooklyn Nets center fractured his fifth metatarsal during the team's game against the Philadelphia 76ers last month.
Nets medical director, Dr Riley Williams III, said in a statement: "With this procedure, we both fixed the broken bone in Brook's right foot and repositioned another bone, so that his sole of his foot will bear weight more evenly than before.
"The repositioning portion of the surgery lessens the stress on the fractured bone and decreases the likelihood of re-injury in the future."
Lopez, who had been averaging 20.7 points per game, will miss the rest of the campaign while recovering from the operations, but is expected to be ready for off-season workouts.
