"Unbelievable welcoming" for openly gay Caitlin Cahow

Caitlin Cahow, USA's openly gay ice hockey star, reveals that she received an "unbelievably welcoming" reception on arrival at Sochi.

USA ice hockey player Caitlin Cahow has revealed that she has experienced no problems in Russia, despite being openly gay.

The two-time Olympic medallist, who played down her role as a member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community before the Games, says that the people she has met have given her a brilliant reception.

"Everyone knew who we were, and I am quite certain we did not experience a single problem," the 28-year-old told The AP. "If anything, they were unbelievably welcoming. I'm very proud to represent my country. I am also proud to be a member of the LGBT community representing the United States."

Cahow won a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, before winning silver in Vancouver four years later.
