United States snowboarder Hannah Teter has labelled the Sochi course at the Winter Olympics as "crappy" and "dangerous".

Multiple riders crashed during Monday's practice session, which had been pushed back from the morning to the evening so that construction work on the course could continue throughout the day.

"When you see every other person fall, you know something's wrong," Teter told reporters.

"It's a little dangerous. I've seen more people fall today than I saw all season. It's dangerous because it's crappy."

Teter won gold in the 2006 Games and then claimed silver four years later.
