Billy Morgan: 'I didn't expect to make slopestyle final'

Great Britain snowboarder Billy Morgan admits that he "didn't expect" to reach the Olympic snowboard slopestyle final, won earlier today by Sage Kotsenburg.

Great Britain snowboarder Billy Morgan has admitted that he "didn't expect" to reach the Olympic snowboard slopestyle final in Sochi earlier today.

The 24-year-old from Southampton achieved scores of 38 and 39.75 during his two runs at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park to finish in tenth place.

"I just went too big in the final but it doesn't matter if you're fourth or 12th," Morgan told reporters. "If you're not on the podium it doesn't count.

"I am not disappointed. I was stoked to make it through to the final, I didn't expect to be here today. If I had got fourth or 12th I would have been just as stoked. I thought I'd go for the podium, I fell [on the second run] but I am happy. I'm still really pleased that I got through to the final.

"People are doing tricks they have never tried before, it is just crazy. That is what makes slopestyle fun and so fun to watch."

Countryman Jamie Nicholls finished sixth, while American Sage Kotsenburg took gold.
