Team GB's Jamie Nicholls through to snowboarding slopestyle final

Great Britain snowboarder Jamie Nicholls progresses to the final of the slopestyle event after finishing in fourth place in his heat on day one of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Great Britain's Jamie Nicholls has qualified for the final of the snowboarding slopestyle on the first day of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The 20-year-old breezed through to the latter stage of the competition as he finished fourth in his heat with a rating of 86.75, and as a result earned automatic qualification.

Nicholls's Team GB teammate Billy Morgan is through to the semi-finals of the event after he finished in sixth place with a score of 85.50, but will now have to compete again to get a place in the final.

Nicholls wrote on Twitter: "Haha this is well fun!!! #Olympics #Sochi2014."

The semi-finals and the final will take place on Saturday.
