Team GB's Zoe Gillings optimistic over medal chances

Great Britain snowboard Zoe Gillings believes that she can compete for a medal in the snowboard cross event in the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Great Britain snowboarder Zoe Gillings believes that she can compete for a medal in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Lindsey Jacobellis and Dominique Maltais are favourites to win the snowboard cross event in which Gillings participates, but the 28-year-old is confident that she can match them.

She told the Team GB official website: "A bit better results this season would have given me some extra confidence but every event has been training for the Olympics, this is the only competition that matters to me and this is the one I care about.

"Lindsey and Dominque are good at getting out at the start and establishing themselves over the first few features. It means they aren't bothered by other people and they can get down the course in a quicker time. I sometimes manage to do that but just not as often.

"Cracking them is a challenge but they are not invincible, they definitely do make mistakes."

Gillings finished in eighth place four years ago in the Games in Vancouver.
