Penny Coomes: 'Hard not to be disappointed after figure skating performance'

Great Britain figure skater Penny Coomes admits that it was hard not to express her disappointment after her performance in last Saturday's figure skating team event.

Great Britain figure skater Penny Coomes has admitted that it was hard not to express her disappointment after her performance in last week's figure skating team event.

The score of 52.93 awarded to Coomes and dance partner Nicholas Buckland on Saturday was considerably lower than the 61.76 which won them bronze medal at January's European Championships, and things didn't improve for Team GB in the competition as they finished in 10th place.

"I certainly don't practise looking that disappointed," the 24-year-old told the Bracknell News. "Some skaters don't reveal their emotions but that was a surprise, and it's hard to hide how you feel.

"I can't pretend to be happy when I'm not but we've got time to get it right and I'm certain we will get the job done. We've got time to fix it. We've had these problems before and maybe the judges are being a bit stricter because it's the Olympics.

"We are very focused and passionate and we'll put the work in now because we're here to do well. It's disappointing but there is no way we'll let it happen again."

The Nottingham duo will return to the Iceberg Skating Palace on Sunday.
