Kremlin: 'Russian, Georgian leaders could meet at Sochi Olympics'

Russian President Vladimir Putin may meet Georgian counterpart Georgy Margvelashvili in Sochi during the Winter Olympic Games.

Russian President Vladimir Putin may meet his Georgian counterpart in Sochi during this year's Winter Olympics, in what would be the first meeting between the two leaders since 2008.

Asked whether a meeting will take place between Putin and Georgy Margvelashvili, who will be among the 60 world leaders to attend the Games which officially start this Friday, Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that it may be possible.

"This has not been ruled out. He is our guest," Peskov told reporters.

Relations between the Russian Federation and Georgia have been strained since a conflict took place between the two nations six years ago.
