Ski jumper Kamil Stoch wins Poland's first gold of Sochi 2014

Kamil Stoch wins Poland's first medal of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games by cruising to victory in the men's normal hill ski jumping competition.

Kamil Stoch has won Poland's first gold medal of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games by storming to victory in the men's normal hill ski jumping event.

A combined score of 276.7 was enough for the Pole to claim top spot, with his jumping distance of 105.5m three metres better than his next competitor.

Slovenia's Peter Prevc claimed the silver medal with his score of 265.8, while Anders Bardal of Norway had to settle for bronze with 264.1.

This is the first Olympic medal of both the careers of Stoch and Prevc, although Bardal won bronze in Vancouver four years ago in the team large hill event.

Stoch, who is the current world number one ski jumper, became the world champion when he won the large hill event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in February of that year.
