Sven Kramer delighted with Sochi success

Dutch speed skater Sven Kramer says that he is overjoyed at winning the gold medal in the 5,000m at the Sochi Olympics.

Sven Kramer has said that he was pleased with his triumph in the 5,000m speed skating event at the Winter Olympics.

The 27-year-old Dutch long track speed skater became only the second athlete in history to successfully defend his title in the event, clocking six minutes and 10.76 seconds.

"I knew it was a good race," he told NOS. "I've had 6:10 in my head all week and I've had sleepless nights thinking 9.2, 9.2, 9.2. Skate only 29.2 laps and keep going as long as possible and it worked."

Kramer's Dutch compatriots Jan Blokhuijsen and Jorrit Bergsma finished second and third respectively.
