Lotus apologise for 'unauthorised' Winter Olympics tweet

Formula 1 team Lotus apologise for posting an "unauthorised" message on Twitter.

Formula 1 team Lotus Renault have apologised after posting an "unauthorised" message on Twitter.

The tweet, which had a picture of two men kissing attached, said: "Ahead of the opening ceremony, we would like to wish all athletes a successful 2014 Olympic Winter Games #Sochi2014."

The tweet has since been deleted.

Russia has drawn criticism for its stance towards homosexuality, as Sochi mayor Anatoly Pakhomov said there are no gay people in the city, while four gay rights activists were arrested last night.

Russia is hosting its first Grand Prix on October 12.
