Two-time world champion Li Xueying has won gold for China in the women's 58k weightlifting, while Britain's Zoe Smith finished out of the medals.

Li set two Olympic records, one each for her snatch and overall score, on her way to a winning total of 246kg.

That was 10kg more than Thai silver medalist Pimsiri Sirikaew could manage, while Yuliya Kalina of Ukraine took bronze with a total lift of 235kg.

Smith sat second in the rankings at the end of the first pool of athletes after setting a personal best total of 211kg.

However, many of the strongest athletes were in the second pool and Smith slid down the standings as Li added an Olympic gold to her two world titles.
