Great Britain narrowly beaten by Germany in water polo

Great Britain's hopes of progression in the European Games water polo suffer another setback after a 10-8 defeat against Germany.

Team GB's hopes of qualifying for the next round of water polo at the European Games are hanging by a thread after they lost 10-8 to Germany.

After a 20-2 loss at the hands of Greece on Friday, Great Britain were left to rue several missed opportunities as they failed to capitalise on superior possession.

Verity McCoy and Izzy Dean led the scoring for Team GB with two goals apiece, but Nadine Hartwig, Jamie Verbelyi, Sophia Eggert and Ira Deike all netted twice for the Germans.

Great Britain's slim hopes of reaching the next phase will depend on whether they can beat Group A leaders Hungary on Tuesday and whether other results go in their favour.
