Gordon Benson eager to challenge Brownlee brothers

Gordon Benson believes that he can soon challenge fellow Brits Alistair and Jonny Brownlee after winning triathlon gold at the European Games.

Gordon Benson has revealed that he is eager to follow in the footsteps of the Brownlee brothers after winning gold in the triathlon at the European Games.

Alistair and Jonny won gold and bronze respectively at the Olympics in London three years ago but have skipped the event in Baku, and Benson admits that he needs to keep improving to compete with the duo.

"It might take a few years but I think I am on the right path and they have shown me what you can achieve from working hard," the 21-year-old told reporters.

"They are just ordinary guys who work hard and are good at what they do. You see them do it and think there is no reason you cannot do it if you put the work in."

Great Britain's triathlon performance director Brendan Purcell has claimed that no decision has been made about which three athletes will be picked for next year's Olympics in Rio.
