Joao Silva has said that he is "very happy" to have finished second in the men's triathlon at the European Games in Baku earlier today.
The Portuguese triathlete finished the run strongly, but fell just short as he tried to close the gap to Team GB's Gordon Benson, who went on to clinch gold.
The 26-year-old told reporters: "In the end, for me, it was all about doing my best and giving it my all rather than ending up with nothing. That is what I did, so I am very happy.
"It was a special race because the weather was super hot. I guess everyone was super tired in the third lap. I was super tired as well, but I kept chasing for the first two laps and then I was motivated to keep doing it.
"I was going into the race thinking about giving it all I have, and that was what I did. I am happy with what I got out of it. It was close, but it was not enough."
Azerbaijan's Rostyslav Pevtsov finished third to complete the podium.
