England's Georgia Taylor-Brown finishes second behind Olympic champion Flora Duffy in the women's triathlon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

England's Georgia Taylor-Brown settled for the silver medal in the women's triathlon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Friday.

The 28-year-old managed to keep up with Bermuda's Olympic champion Flora Duffy during the cycling stage, but the Tokyo silver medallist fell behind during the 5km run.

Duffy draped the Bermudian flag over her shoulder as she crossed the line with a total time of 55:25, with Taylor-Brown 41 seconds behind as she placed second.

The English triathlete won silver after fellow Tokyo medallist Alex Yee took the gold medal in the men's event, but she admitted that she struggled with the conditions after the race, telling BBC Sport: "It's quite muggy and sticky, they are tough conditions and the course is so hard on the run.

"But the crowd was incredible, it gave me goose bumps. It's special, but I am bored of coming home second to Flora, I was a bit gutted I couldn't copy Alex Yee and get gold but I am happy with silver today.

"Considering how I felt before the race, I am just happy with a silver medal. I am enjoying every minute of this year."

Scotland's Beth Potter (56:46) finished in the bronze medal spot on the podium, and Taylor-Brown's compatriot Sophie Coldwell (57:06) was close behind in fourth.
