Non Stanford: 'Helen Jenkins withdrawal is right decision'

Welsh triathlete Non Stanford believes that Helen Jenkins's withdrawal from the European Games will benefit her bid to qualify for next year's Olympic Games.

Non Stanford has backed the decision of Welsh compatriot Helen Jenkins to withdraw from the European Games.

An ankle injury has resulted in Jenkins missing out on the inaugural staging of the event in Baku, but Stanford is confident that her teammate will do enough to win selection for the Olympic Games next summer.

The 26-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I have every confidence that they're doing the right thing and doing their best to make sure Helen will be on that start line in Rio. It would be a massive shame for her to miss out."

Both Stanford and Jenkins will discover whether they have been selected for Rio later this year.
