Kyle Edmund suffers first-round defeat at Wimbledon

British number three Kyle Edmund suffers a straight-sets defeat to Adrian Mannarino in the first round at Wimbledon.

Kyle Edmund has been made to wait for his first win at Wimbledon after he suffered a straight-sets defeat to Adrian Mannarino.

The British number three impressed at Queen's earlier this month but he remains without success at SW19 after being dispatched 6-2 7-5 6-4 by the left-handed Frenchman.

Edmund struggled with the variety of his opponent's game during the opener and that continued in the second as Mannarino quickly went a break ahead.

The world number 55 squandered a chance to serve out the set but he struck in the very next game to put himself to within a set of the second round.

Edmund battled on gamely in the third but he dropped serve in the ninth game and Mannarino was able to successfully serve out the match to set up a clash with Novak Djokovic.
