Andy Murray is hopeful that he will recover from a back injury in time to compete at Wimbledon later this month.

British number one Andy Murray believes that he will return in time to fitness for Wimbledon later this month.

The Scotsman's place in the major tournament is in doubt following his withdrawal from the French Open due to a back injury.

"That's the plan," the Evening Times quotes Murray as saying. "The grass is a bit easier on my back than the clay and I am hoping that Wimbledon is going to be fine. I am going to try to get myself ready to play the warm-up event at Queen's, but I just have to wait and see."

Meanwhile, one of Murray's competitors Roger Federer has got his campaign at the Roland Garros off to a winning start by defeating debutant Pablo Carreno-Busta 6-2 6-2 6-3.
