Goran Ivanisevic: 'Andy Murray not unlucky'

Goran Ivanisevic says that Andy Murray can't use his era of birth as an excuse for not winning any Grand Slams.

Former Wimbledon winner Goran Ivanisevic has insisted that Andy Murray isn't unlucky to have not won any majors due to his quality of opposition.

Many feel that the Scot is unfortunate to have been born in the same era as Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who between them have claimed 28 of the last 29 Grand Slams.

Murray has finished as runner-up twice in the Australian Open and once at the US Open, but Ivansevic believes that the British number one can go a stage further at SW19.

"You are always born in some era," said Ivanisevic.

"I was born into an era with Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Stefan Edberg, Michael Chang and so many other guys.

"You can't look at it that way. If you want to win a Grand Slam you have to beat all of these guys. He is not unlucky, he just needs to produce his best tennis in the semi-finals and final."

Ivanisevic is the only person in history to have won Wimbledon as a wildcard.
