Simona Halep has defeated Timea Babos in three sets to advance through to the last-16 stage of the US Open.
Last year's semi-finalist came out on top 1-6 6-2 6-4 in a time of just over two hours at Flushing Meadows to set up a meeting with Carla Suarez Navarro.
Halep cruised through the first set by breaking her opponent three times, but the Romanian had less success in the second as she squandered a couple of break points and gave her opponent a chance to level up.
Four games on the bounce ensured that Babos took the second set, but it was Halep who edged an entertaining decider after recovering from a two-game deficit to progress through in difficult circumstances.
