The American started strongly with a break point at the first time of asking, but Jaziri showed some fight as he came close to converting a break of his own in the fourth game.

Isner, whose best tournament finish is the quarter-finals, was able to save three break points though, and pushed on to take the lead in the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

In the second set, Isner continued his dominance as he needed just one break to double his lead and put him in a strong position leading into the third.

Once again, the American, who hit 24 aces overall, was able to control proceedings and take that crucial break point that made the difference.
