British duo Liam Broady and Yuriko Miyazaki progress to the second round of US Open qualifying, but Jan Choinski is eliminated.

Great Britain enjoyed another successful day of US Open qualifying on Wednesday, as Liam Broady and Yuriko Miyazaki both prevailed in their opening contests.

Broady - who is seeded 10th in the men's singles qualifying - got off to a difficult start against the Netherlands' Jelle Sels but fought back to prevail 4-6 6-1 6-2.

A second-round battle with another Dutchman Jesper de Jong now awaits Broady, who could have potentially faced compatriot Jan Choinski for a spot in the main draw.

However, the 27-year-old's bid for another main-draw appearance came to a swift end at the hands of Japan's Sho Shimabukuro, who eased to a 6-3 6-3 victory.

There was more success for GB in the women's qualifying tournament, though, as Miyazaki battled her way past Ukraine's Daria Snigur 6-3 6-2 to set up a clash with Russia's Valeria Savinykh.

Miyazaki has just one Grand Slam main draw appearance to her name - reaching the first round of Wimbledon last year - and she is one of two British women left in the qualifying competition alongside Harriet Dart, who faces Belgian third seed Yanina Wickmayer in a second-round preliminary battle later today.
