The Arthur Ashe Stadium at the US Open is evacuated due to predicted severe weather in the region of New York.

Officials at the US Open have decided to evacuate the Arthur Ashe Stadium due to expected severe weather in the New York area.

Radars have shown that a tornado is due to hit Flushing Meadows at around 11pm UK time.

As a result, officials made the decision to clear the area now with the safety of the public in mind.

The crowd had been watching the second men's semi-final of the day, where David Ferrer was leading defending champion Novak Djokovic 5-2 in the opening set.

It has since been confirmed that the match will resume at 4pm UK time tomorrow afternoon.
