Andy Murray praises fans after late finish at Rogers Cup

Andy Murray praises fans who remained at the Rogers Cup until 1.30am after he came through against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets.

Andy Murray has admitted that he was grateful to the fans who remained courtside for the conclusion of his Rogers Cup match with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The world number three came through in straight sets against last year's champion in a match that finished at 1.30am after a number of rain delays earlier in the day in Montreal.

After the contest, the 28-year-old said: "A lot of the crowd stayed and that really helped me get motivated.

"They created a good atmosphere out there and I appreciate everyone staying. I passed well. I came up with some good passing shots and that was the difference today."

Murray will play Kei Nishikori for a place in the final after the Japanese eased past Rafael Nadal.
