Heather Watson reaches the final of the Japan Open to move one match away from becoming the first British female player to win a WTA event for 24 years.

Heather Watson has reached the final of the Japan Open with a straight-sets win over Misake Doi.

The 20-year-old dug deep at the end of each set to seal a 7-6 7-5 victory and she will now play either Sam Stosur or Chang Kai-Chen in Sunday's final.

Watson now has the opportunity to become the first British player to win a WTA event for 24 years.

British number one Laura Robson recently broke a 22-year wait for a British player to reach a WTA final, but she lost in the final of the Guangzhou Open last month.
